Some Odd Rubies is an
amplifier/speaker cabinet combination designed
for use with an I-Pod or portable cd player, which docks onto
the top panel. The eight full-range speakers,
two
on each face, fill the room with lush, non-fatiguing, fun-to-experience
sound.
- single- ended 300B circuit brings digital playback technologies to life, and makes music converted to the inherently lossy medium of mp3 exciting again
- produces 106db of clean musical audio from a class-A seven watt amplifier
- smooth frequency response, 40-15000 hz from specially treated and modified speakers
- rosewood
veneer vented enclosure with drivers mounted on every face to eliminate
baffle step rolloff, and using boundary effects for solid,
authoritative
bass
- built from a gutted victrola reproduction

Odessa Whitmire, and Ruby Canner opened their store Some
Odd Rubies
next door to my shop on Ludlow Street last year. I watched them show up
every day and re-build the little storefront over the course of 5
months, getting dirty, laughing, and finally creating an amazing
environment somewhere between an elegant 1930's bedroom, an activist
cell, and a cocktail party for actors, musicians, and artisans of every
stripe.
Their personalities and products were so inspiring I was compelled to build a system to complement their store and their lives. Their musical tastes have no limits and i am pleased that this system gets many hours of daily use.
